The Bual and Malmsey used to make this blend were aged seperately for 5 years in American Oak casks in the traditional ‘Canteiro’ system. Blandy’s Madeira was founded by John Blandy in 1811 and is well-known for producing quality Madeira, a fortified wine, from Portugal’s island of the same name, several hundred kilometers west off the northwest coast of Afri.

At the time, it was unique within the Madeira wine trade as the first blended wine using two of the island’s traditional white varietals – Malmsey & Bual.
